One Million Experiments: In the Field

An abolitionist travel show exploring how people define and create safety toward a world without police and prisons.

Episodes

One Million Experiments is a multimedia project exploring how we define and create safety in a world without police and prisons. Since the 2020 uprising, 1ME has been in the lab with organizers from across this land talking about what keeps us safe, celebrating the work already happening to build solutions that are grounded in transformation instead of punishment, and inviting you to participate in the joyous work of liberation.

Now, five years after uprising, hosts Damon and Daniel get out of the lab and into the field to reconnect with the experiments featured on the 1ME podcast, explore the spaces and places these local organizers call home, and showcase the vibrant, joyful conversation creating new possibilities for wellness and protection. Continuing the work of the One Million Experiments podcast and film, the series makes tangible and irresistible the community-built definitions and strategies for safety that are already being created, and serves as an antidote to the despair created when carceral systems are the only option. We don’t need one answer to how we get free–we need one million experiments.

One Million Experiments: The Film

What does safety in a world without police and prisons look like? What does it make more possible? This experimental documentary film is a companion to the podcast, remixing ten episodes of conversations and interweaving their takeaways with original, archival, and gathered footage that makes room for radical possibilities and invites viewers into participation.
